Last month up-and-coming Boston house producer Subalias dropped a gem on us in the form of a 5-track EP. A longtime music instructor at MMMMAVEN and one of the helping hands behind the scenes each year at the Together festival, “Fractured” is one of Subalias’s first serious releases.
With each song being largely instrumental, Subalias opts to have the synths do the singing, as particularly demonstrated on “Don’t Lose Me”, the closer. Then we’ve got “MiniMal”, my favorite of the lot because I’m a sucker for anything in E minor. “Never Too Soon” and “Affirmation” swing heavily and touch on the garage and future house sounds prevalent across the pond, and “With Xtra Dip” manages to get by with the tiniest vocal snippet…the only one on the whole package!
