You ever get tired of those nights around town where only one style of music is played from start to end with no variation whatsoever? Then you might want just to get yourself over to Goodlife tomorrow night to witness two people in action who pretty much do the exact opposite of that: DJ’s Jubilee and Dre Skull.
Applying an “if you don’t like what you’re hearing now, just wait 5 minutes” approach to all of their sets, when Jubilee and Dre Skull are at the helm you can expect to hear anything from dancehall to dembow to electro breaks, Latin-inspired vibes, hell maybe even some 2 Live Crew and Magic Mike throwbacks for good measure.
Founder of Mixpak records, Dre Skull made his name working with a slew of Caribbean and Jamaican artists over the past decade, most notably Vybz Kartel. Equally as respected for his eclectic curatorial skills on the label as a DJ, Dre Skull signed Jubilee to Mixpak several years ago. She has since flourished in her own right, turning all the scenery and memories of her Miami hometown into an autobiographical frenzy of beats and baselines.
I’m not quite sure if either Jubilee or Dre Skull have played Boston before, but know for a fact that if they have, it hasn’t been quite some time…so this will be one for the books! And get there early for Pete Dev/Null to warm things up. Dev/Null’s a good friend of both these cats so expect to bounce off the walls all night. You can also check the mix he did for Shake below.
Thanks to Shake we’ve got another ticket giveaway for this. Just like Zakim and Shake on Facebook, then email nminieri@yahoo.com with the subject line “Shake Giveaway” with your full name. Winner and a guest get in free; drawing 12pm tomorrow. Good luck!
